Info on electronic ignition

I've used the FS ignition module since 2006 (about 4000 miles on it) and not had a failure. I bought a spare from them and carry it with me. The car runs very well with it and I like the fact it takes the condenser out of the loop. I did actually leave the key on overnight one time, jumped the car and it started right up.

Been running an FS Ignition for about 2000 miles. Quicker starts (I think), hotter spark (I'm told), absolute reliability and consistency in performance, no more messing with points, adjustments, condensers, etc. Love it.

I carry a whole new standard distributor as a spare - along with the quick wiring work-around instructions. But, in spite of the expense, I believe I'll just buy a second FS unit as a spare. Way easier to change out on the road.

I recommend the FS Ignition also. I have used it in VCRA rallies without trouble for lots of miles. The centrifugal advance is very nice also.

Sargis3,I've run FS ignition for about 15,000 miles and love it.I run the 6v positive ground setup. The A fires off 2nd revolution hot or cold.I jumped about 2 miles per gal.with it.Here are some things to do to ensue a proper install.Run a extra ground strap using 2/0 cable from the flywheel housing to the frame.Make sure all connections are clean(bare metal) and tight.I have seen the biggest cause of failure with EI is bad grounds.Follow the instructions to the tee.Buy the optional timing kit and set timing with a timing light. You cannot use the original pop-out switch, just use a regular on/off ignition switch. You will here the argument that when it goes down your down.I always say Electronic ignition has been run since the mid 80's and out of the multi-millions how many fail.Yes I do carry a distributor with point timed and ready to drop in in case of failure, but I also carry other extra parts when going on a trip and in 6yrs have never broken down.By the way I have nothing against the original system,I just like the EI better. :D

Hi Sargis, As with the comments above, I am running an FS ignition module and am extremely happy with it. As with Jim above, follow the instructions exactly, and do not take any shortcuts, and your installation will be completely reliable. Good Luck!

I also Have a 53 Citroen, there is a common thread on both sites regarding electronic ignition ---carry a spare original dist.

I prefer the reliability of the original ignition system,----if it stops you play with it some --then are back on the road.

When you try to combine the reliability of a modern car --it goes a long time but when it stops --tow it home --replace a chunk of electronics, or a sensor (after you find which one has the problem)-- with a model A you can get the worst of both worlds --

I agree with Kurt. I prefer the original distributor. I carry an extra set of original points and I have never had a problem with an original distributor with original type points that I couldn't fix on the spot.

I believe that the original distributor used with the pertronix flame thrower 40.000 volt coil will out perform electronic ignition. You will get quicker starts and more power that you can feel and to look at the coil, nobody will ever know the difference.
