which is the best way to increase the performance of the model A engine without buying some performance parts?, like a compression head or special camshaft.
The cheap way to increase hp on A!!
May be brushing the head, or polish the Intake Manifold.
I don´t Know!! any tricks will be welcome guys!!

The one single item that will give you the biggest HP increase is a higher compression engine head. However your engine will need to be in good shape in regard to your main and rod bearings.
The average Model A has only about 34-38 HP and adding the right head will add 6-10 HP and you will notice the difference.
Go to Brumfield, Snyder and the other parts suppliers and do your research.
I hope this will help

I know adding a compression head increase the hp, but is the easy way, i want talking with the masters of the speeds of this forum ( the old school racers)
May be they tell me how did stolen a lots of hp in the begining of the races!!
May be this post help someone who wants to get their hands dirty!!

I'm not really understanding what you are going for here. If you are not going to change the head, camshaft, ignition or carb then your best best is solid mechanics. Make sure the points are set right the dwell is right, new plugs, wires etc and that will be the best you can do. Add Nitro methane and it'll give you lots of power without touching the engine but it won't last long and it's very expensive.

First off let me start this paragraph by saying I'm no expert and I'm only speaking from my experience with my A. The best thing you can do for an A is give it some compression. Just adding a 6+ head will make it drive like a whole new car, then add a header, intake and downdraft and it'll really wake up. Go for broke and add a cam and you'll be really suprised. The ultimate is an overhead and inserts. But this all costs money, and silly money for HP per dollar ratio. But a full tilt Banger is like nothing else.

You'll have about a grand for head, intake, carb, and header but boy is it worth it. For what it's worth I've gone completely off the deep end and have a "B" motor in the works. Be careful this Banger stuff is very addictive.

Good luck and have fun,

Tim

Ok!! first the best is a compression head because the model A compression is very low, but first must you have a strong engine!!,
I think a special camshaft give a lot of HP!!
Intake manifold single or dual down draft
Carbs Stromberg 98 or?
Another question: Listen out there that can lighten the clutch wheel 8 kg what is for?

One of our hot rodding forefathers once said "Speed costs money... how fast do you want to go?"

X2 :D
The Model A is cheap until you wont more power. Then when you get the power you will be posting. How can I make my car stop better on the cheep.
Yes that will cost money too

side note
Jim Brierley did my last cam grind I can't what to finish that engine

Just trying to give him the best shot at success. I do often look at the other forums including HAMB if nothing more thean to see what the enemy is doing;)

I quess he could install a B carb and bore out the A manifold to an HP or two more. or maybe polish the ports a little.

Sorry guys, I hink he's asking how to increase horsepower WITHOUT replacing the head or cam or dual carbs, etc. He's asking what tricks racers used to gain more h/p W/OUT spending a lot of money. My interpretation.

and we said NO money NO hp to speak of any ways
I knew a girl like that... No money No.... well you know

To blue print the engine to make 3 hp would cost more then a head intake and carb.

My 1st engine the car sat for 50 years. I got it ran it for 1500+ miles all stock. It came with a 5.5-6 to head in the trunk so I put that on when I had a head gasket leak made a intake and header and ran that for 2 years over 3000 miles. Then I got a 7.5 to Alum head (lasted 60 or so miles) put to much timing to it and put a hole in one of the pistons.

I haven't spent a lot of money on my roadster's engine, but it does have a police head (5.2 to 1) a reground hill climber cam, down draft '94' carb, a lightened flywheel, a counter balanced crank, and a V8 clutch. I'd guess 70 hp. It will fly!

Ohh!! Man this is the cost of the speed to!!

With a compression head the pressure will be enormous and all the engine will be support that hi pression.- The engine stay fine for a while, no for long,
I think the better is have a stock engine if you want your engine have a long life, but never run that the bird roadrunner..

I think if I didnt jack the timing so high It would still be running. The guy Dave I got my car from this car was his high school better he ran it from 54-57 then parked it. As a kid he and his friends beat the **** out of that little engine. I like to hear the old timers talk about driving to school in my old car. For the 3 years It lasted me the valve springs were my rev limiter.
