Incorrect 1934 BB Truck bellhousing?

Bob C,

I don't have any good photos of the bellhousings. Here is one where you can see the bellhousing for a '33 or '34 under the transmission I'm measuring. On the '35, the bellhousing is cast with the transmission case. I can get more photos of the two transmissions when I go back to my parents house.

Don't know if this will help, but I've attached a few side-by-side images of a complete 1935 Model 51 transmission and a 1932-34 BB transmission case. From what I understand, there is a separate bell-housing which fits between the engine and the transmission. I suspect there may be two versions, one for a 4 cylinder engine and one for the V8, but I'm just guessing. The Model 51 transmission has an integral bell housing.

Cmspencer - I have the BB transmission case on the swap meet for free. Let me know if you would like to have it along with some of the gears and internal parts. It's not much, but might help you at some point. Free delivery to Hershey the first week in October, or you can pay the shipping - about 45 lbs in a 10x10x13" box from 22039.

Here is a picture of a 1933-34 V8 bell housing and it sure looks deeper like Red mentioned. Some digging in the parts book shows main drive gear BB-7017-A 1929-47 EXCEPT1933-34 8cyl 7.78" long. Main drive gear BB-7017-B 1933-34 8 cyl 10.31" long so the 1933-34 8 cyl is 2.53" longer. Never knew they were different.

You have the wrong transmission in the truck. Are you finishing it to sell? I am including photos of a '35 transmission and '34 transmission. The '34 is about 2" longer with the bellhousing being the difference. I think* (and I have no soild evidence to back this up) that you can use an AA transmission provided you use a '34 bellhousing.

Thank you for the photos! My transmission measures 12 5/8” long just like the ‘35 trans you have pictured. Looks like I’m in the hunt for a ‘34 trans and bellhousing but glad we finally have it figured out.

And yes, once I have the engine and trans mounted up correctly I do plan on selling.

Thank you all for the helpful info! As some of you pointed out, this ‘35 trans was the smoking gun to my issue ( also upon closer inspection I finally saw that this transmission case was a single cast piece). Luckily I found a gentlemen not too far away with the parts that I need. Cheers guys 👍🏻

Here are some comparative photos of a '34 and '35 transmission.
