I'm in deep doo-doo

In a pinch would cutting a grade 8 nut like the pictured tool work? Put the nut on and with a 6 pt socket back it off.

I think it would just bind. You don't have a way to align the threads of each half, and the socket isn't going to force the two halves together like the split die would.

I have that tool that I got from Don. You are welcome to borrow it. Should fit in a USPO flat rate envelope so shipping to and from should be under $20.

Send me a message if you'd like to borrow the tool. I won't be able to get it out to you until Wednesday at the earliest. We've gotten hammered with snow.

Can't go wrong with getting one from Don as well. Great tool to have and it will save your hide in jams like this.

Found this thread. Kind of coincidental

That was very kind of Tim!

For threads that are not really bad, I have taken the Castellated Nut, put it on backwards and started working it with oil turn by turn. Not as professional as can be done, but those nuts are hard and have hard gaps to do a bit of cleanup if you keep it oiled. Worth a try.
