ignition switch

You may want to look at what a new switch looks like (maybe you already have yours in hand). Note that there is a short, but large spring on the end of the switch that would rest against the back of the sheet metal dash. To remove your old one, you will need to reach under your dash and push the housing towards you, then turn it clockwise (as you face it) and it should pop off. IIRC that is the procedure but it has been a while and I am on some drugs at the moment because of an illness. Of course, unhook your battery soon.

Dan is partly correct. Reach under the dash, push the ignition switch forward and then with a large screwdriver turn the star shaped collar on the front of the ignition switch anticlockwise and it should release the switch.

I made a tool to fit the slot out of aluminum, fearing the big screw driver could slip and cause damage. Push hard, twist quick. Its out.
