ignition switch connections

I have a 1955 ford. Okay 6v too. I'd like to swap out my current ignition switch but, I've got a problem. The switch in my car is a aftermarket switch and looks nothing like the stock replacement I'll be force to buy. Mine has four connectors in a circle. The remake switch or correct one has three in a circle and one post in the middle. My question is what connects to the post in the middle? Is there a diagram out there somewhere that shows what goes where and why? The manual has no picture just tells you to mark wires and reconnect the way you disconnected. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks

so somewhere on the circle of the current switch I have a wire that is a ground! Is that what you're trying to say?

No with 6 volt pos ground is confessing, the neg is the hot one.
Follow the current "neg" from battery to switch "center" to ign terminal out bracket holding coil that being grd.ect.Is the switch be marked ,could be plus or minus.

There is no negative or positive ground on the switch.
The new switch will have the positions marked. You can see them in the enclosed picture.
If you still have the original wiring then the colours will be the same as those shown.
The heavy yellow wire goes on the terminal marked BAT. The coil wire and the oil and gen power wires go to the terminal marked IGN. The wire from the solenoid goes to the center terminal. This one is live only when the key is in the start position. All others go to the terminal marked ACC. The post on this terminal is usually longer than the others.

Thanks for the photo it is going to be VERY helpful. Your post was what I was trying to get at when I wrote my question again thanks a lot.....Dave

This make two posts in a row where Rebel wire seems to have the correct answers. I think if I need an aftermarket wire loom, I just found where my money will be spent. Great service to customers.
