I am getting readt to test start my 41 for the first time. A question I have is is there and do I need a ignition resistor between the battery and the coil. I plan on running a wire from the battery to the coil to provide power to keep the thing running, once it starts! Or can I just run direct power from the battery without coil/condenser dist damage.
Thanks for the help.

You should set up a resistor to feed the coil. Just mount one on your engine.

The coil will get a momentary 6 volts before the resistor heats up and reduces the voltage to (3 1/2 volts?)

Once you get it started, check oil pressure listen fir bad noised run up to 1500 rpm for a few seconds, shut down install in car and drive it.]
Running for any length of time on the stand may glaze the rings and prevent them from seating properly causing the engine to use excessive oil.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I have a similar question. I bought a '40 engine and would like to start it on a stand. I am electrically illiterate. Can anyone give me a basic wiring tech on how to temp. start my engine. How do I know if it was pos. or neg. ground? Thanks.
