How can I tell what type of carburetor I have? I know markings will say what kind, mine has other a Z on the neck of the upper half and the other side of the neck has 26 with a G under it, the lower half of the carburetor has nothing. Ive looked in good and in here but did not try hard as normal, but then again if we all went to google and old post what would we talk about ...

Thanks,

Michael J.

Model A carburetors were manufactured by Zenith & Holley with only slight differences in markings & functionally identical. You have a combination of castings. The top, marked with a Z is from Zenith. The plain bottom was made by Holley for 1928 models. Mix & match will work fine, but if you are looking for more authenticity you might want to find a top or bottom to better match what you have.

Thanks Modela_carb,

Too my understanding Zennith is the best or most preferred? Holly coming in as 2nd ? and how can you tell if the bottom is Holly?

not at all questioning you knowledge just want to know for my own learning experience.

What's the matter with the old Zenith 1 = Zenith, Zenith 2 = Holley, and Zenith 3 = Ford for the later carbs?

That’s what I was asking in a way ... what is the best or preferred?

what year car, do you want correct for your year, look at the judging standards to help you with that.. Preferred is a loaded question actually..

Like Jim A. said the top is Zenitrh, if you open the carb up it may have a "Holley" marking around the bottom bowl top. Also the Holley carbs until late 31 did not have an offset on the gas adjustment needle housing on the lower bowl, Zenith carbs have the offset.
