They are 1941 pickup/commercial gauges. Charcoal faces with red lettering which has faded. Jailbar trucks use similar, but the 50 lb oil pressure gauge is pre-war.

although not identical to the raw gauges inside the cluster on my '41 super deluxe, it wouldn't surprise me if they were from a mid-thirties american car.

typically they would be attached to the back of a faceplate which was part of the gauge cluster. attachment method consits of two screws. one at opposite corners of the gauge. cutouts on a faceplate exposed only a portion of the gauge. for instance, on the fuel gauge, the faceplate window for the fuel gauge would expose only the area from just above the word "FUEL" to just below the "E" and "F".

i'm basing this on the experience i recently had the requiring me to replace the fuel and oil pressure gauges (neither tested positive for continuity) on my '41 ford. surprisingly, NOS ones were readily available on Ebay!

it's easy to see the similarity to one i bought:

1941 Pickup would be my guess.
not 1940, because it had a voltmeter, not an amp meter.

i may be wrong, but my understanding is that voltmeters didn't start replacing ammeters in automobiles until the 1960's or later.

I never saw a volt meter in any stock '40 pickup. If you have info on that in any Ford publication I would like to see it.

The cowl loom in a 1940 pickup 01C-14401-B had to be changed in 1941 11C-14401-B because 1940 had voltmeters and 1941 had ammeters. See page 577 in the green book.
Page 490 shows 1940 has 01A-10844-B battery charge indicator (voltmeter) and 1941 has
11C-10850-A ammeter assembly. This is one of the things I learned when wiring my 1940 pickup in 1975.

fordyford already covered it, but here is a picture of the voltmeter used in the 1940 Standard and the 1940 Pickup trucks.
As mentioned above this changed to an ammeter in the 41 model year.

I kind of wonder if the ones Kube showed might be out of a jeep. I think they used they same dash.

Kirk

Yes, it’s possible they came from a 1941 Ford gp. They used the same gauge cluster as the pickups in 41. I think one of our Fordbarn members has one? I’ve seen pictures of it here before.

If I may speculate, I would think they were taken from a 41 pickup instrument cluster so that cluster could be used in one of Mr. Kubarth’s 1940 restorations. The only differences would be the gauge faces, ammeter, and gauge panel color.
