Going through my stach of used cam yeaterday. We'll talk about 8BA style. You know where some say 8BA and EAB, I know the spec on them. But I have 2 cams, one with (C18 casting with .320 lift) and another with (C24 no. and .316 lift). What do you suppose they are, Canada engines)? Thanks Walt

I guess nobody knows the answer to this guestion. Walt

walt all our stuff is canadian all the cams ive seen for 8ba are the same as you have but the 8ba merc cams are differnet ive never seen cams with your lastc18 c24 trev new zealand

Walt, when you look at the timing of ALL the available stock cams, there's very little difference between them. Tes the numbers are different, but at beat you get .030" more lift and the duration changes very little. The factory did a good job of designing the cams giving plenty of low end torque, but they all ran out before 4 grand.

Walt, the 1949-54 Ford Australia Chassis & Body Parts Manual only lists C8BA6252B, C8RT6252 & CEAB6252A Canadian sourced cams, similar to Barlea.

Walt - I wish you well
I would like to see some of these "New" Flathead cams profiled so that maybe the real story can be documented - I've heard many tales of which one is better but no numbers to work with

Thanks guys, I have a copy that someone posted quite awhile ago with the spec of all the cams like 8BA--EAB--lCM ect. No matter how many years us old timers have worked on the these flatmotors we'er always finding something we've never seen before. BTW, one of the cams I got, C18, has got a small E stamped on the snout where the dist gear goes. The other one has nothing. I kind of think for a stock cam, the EAB seem the best. or maybe the lCM, ain't this fun. Walt

I have a spare cam for my 1951 V-8 flathead. The only marks are 8BA the number 9 and a B along with FORDCO stamping.

At times I think that the guys that made these old Ford are up there looking down and haveing a hell of at laugh at us trying to figure out what all these stampings mean - Hey Charly, I remember when you would pick out your dies with a blind fold every day - Look at them

Walt, an easy way to map out the cam is to use a dial indicator on the follower and a degree wheel on the crank.
Take the lift readings at at the dial and take them every 5 deg, mark them out on a large graph paper,
I do this with them and also the ignition advance curves.
You can then SEE the difference.
Hows things, you running your dragster this year.
We did one meeting last month ,another this month.
Take care
Lawrie
