I want a Fordor?

It always cost more to restore a model A than it's worth, spend a little more on a better one,you will be thankful you did.My opinion!

Thanks, but I will only buy local.

If the Fordor doesn't sell for $9,000 on eBay, after the auction, make him a reasonable offer for his Fordor. Since there will not be any ebay selling fees after the auction, he probably will take your offer.

YES, you do want a Fordor! This one.....maybe. Here is my 2 cents worth. Obviously you need a new interior. But the ad states that it runs and drives well. My first question is that if it runs why is there a tow strap tied to another vehicle? Second the engine looks like it was underwater at some point with all of the rust pitting in the head.

All of that aside, the body seems to be in really good shape, Chassis is an unknown.

A bad storm did flood several cars in that area a couple years ago, and there were warnings about buying a flood victim. Flood victims are bad on newer cars, but if an antique car is serviced right away, it would be much less of a concern. If the engine, ****** and rear end were drained, then the car driven immediately after the water receded, then it should be OK.

Look for water stains on headlamp reflectors and upholstery to see how high the water came up, if it was a flood victim.

Local is worth a lot to me too. Can you go see it? That would be great, and could save you up to a couple grand in shipping costs. Ever notice how some cars seem to disappear from eBay, They get offered an acceptable amount and they end the auction. The guy has 600+ ebay transactions and 100% positive feedback so he's probably a stand-up guy. You've done one car, you know what it's all about, it's a "crap-shoot" any way you look at it. The car is worth what's it's worth to you. Go take a look, bring money, offer him what you want to pay. Even if you can't make a deal, you'll increase your knowledge base. If it doesn't sell, maybe he'll be ready to deal with you then.

Hi 1929,

In your reply.

"After doing all this to my first Model A and completed in one year, I think I went to the Model A college of complete restoration aggravation in one year. I can now recognize much more now then before, and the costs. Thanks H.L."

After reading this above, and seeing your marvelous photos, you should be awarded the Model A Medal of Honor and the unique [Model A "Piece" Prize] for meticulously putting all of these Model A "Pieces" back together. Good job!

This guy advertised on Craigs list over a month ago, a similar Model A that he wanted $11,000, he said his car was used by Ben Affleck in a new to be released movie, and he stated: Get the car now cheap, because I will raise the price once the movie is released. I think the car was on Craigs list for over 3 months, guess no one cared about Ben.

Not really H.L., I was too impatient and stupid to wait for my friends to help me take the body off the frame and move it onto the 4x4s, I went in the car, took it off the frame, and carried it over to the 4x4s and almost cut my leg open when I dropped it down.

Re: You Want a Fordor?

Consider this and be driving next weekend....and it's local!

(I have no connection to this sale but at the cost of a restoration today, buy it finished & enjoy.)

Buy the best "done" car you can afford, as everyone here will vouch that a 4 dr sedan is probably the most expensive and time consuming to restore of all the body styles.

Why would Spanish be not relevant? There are many model A's in South America.

Spanish might be relevant in South America but that is a looong way from here. I don't recall ever meeting more than one person here from a Spanish speaking country and this is about the most ethnically diverse country on earth. I have 3 grandchildren in primary school and they are learning 3 different languages between them. Japanese, Indonesian and Mandarin. My city (Melbourne) alone has the largest Greek speaking community outside Greece and they are nearly matched by the Italians.
FWIW, I tried to contact a Model A club in South America years ago via their website and using an online translator but never got a reply.

Re: You Want a Fordor?

Hi 1929,

To address your original post: "Re: You Want a Fordor?"

I have a 1930 coupe since 1958.

I would never do this today, but as teenagers we used to pack 4 - -5 of us sitting in it to go out with (3) sitting on the seat and 1 or 2 sitting on someone's lap.

We always saw the previous owner before me always going to our old 50 cent movies with his wife and children, 10 miles away, with 5 passengers cramped in his coupe .... this was so common back then.

FWIW: A Fordor is far more comfortable for legally carrying 5 passengers. I prefer my 1930 Briggs Town Sedan now that I have grown up children & grand kids.
