I thought I had seen it ALL.......Until Today....

38 Ford Pickup

Senior Member
Hello Forum Members.

I have been doing the Senior's Home Car events for the last 15 years. We have a group of us that do about 10-12 Events per year. Today we had a nice show with lunch supplied and a 50's theme so I took my 57 Chevy Wagon.......Ok Tuesday I have another and I am taking my 38........ Anyway........ It was a great time...............BUT................ Can you believe this..........We had a new guy arrive today who brought a 31 Ford Model A ............Great car.........Trailered the car there and drove it 10 feet onto the Lawn.

This was the first time I had seen this fellow at our Seniors Circuit as I call it......... To make a Long story a bit shorter ..............They had the Seniors Vote for the best Vehicle.............What did I find out..........His mother lives in this Seniors home and had all the people vote for his Car............ I just laughed at him as he got his Fantastic Prize and laughed even harder when I saw the car go back on the Trailer.

What a LAME ***...........

My rant of the day...........Did I mention I hate car/cruise shows with anything that starts with a 1964.........

Have a great weekend..........and Lame *** 31 Owner........If you read this........ Your **** stinks just like all of ours...........

we have had that happen in the 80's in Bakersfield, haul the car to the meet and drive it into the show, we had a special trophy for those guys, a pop cycle stick with a green ribbon on it, if you cant drive it to the show you don't deserve a trophy

Happens all the time. Don't let it bother you. It's kind of like those folks who arrive late and "Power Park". Trophies should not be awarded at car shows, IMO.

It's a crying shame that you allow such a petty thing like that ruin your day instead of feeling good about doing something nice like bringing your truck for the seniors. Whomever gets recognized shouldn't matter-it's the good times we have with one another at the events and the smiles spectators get when they see our cars or trucks. Blow it off and press-on!

Steve you "got it right". Too much anger in the world today. How did he take a good event and find his rant???
Barb and I spent the afternoon at a nursing home cruise in today and so nice to see that those residents "come alive" with talking about their first car memories.

Enjoy life as you want to live it and don't worry about the next guy. Life's too short. "Trophies? we don't need no stinkin' trophies".

If I were to bring my car to the meet, I'd have to trailer it in too. Problem is, I wouldn't be winning any prizes. Stuffing the ballot box is quite another thing, though. My car might win the sympathy vote with a prize of a can of hand cleaner and a package of band-aids instead of a trophy.

IMO, it doesn't matter if you drive your car to a show or trailer it. If it is judged to be the best car in it's class, you should win. But, unfortunately, that's where the problems begin. Some shows I attend are only a popularity contest. If you can recruit voters and enough of your buddies to vote for your entry, you win( when participants vote). Some shows are judged by judges, and that is another story. I like shows where the only award is one awarded by the spectators or mayor or some other unbiased person, or just a warm fuzzy for showing your car(like nursing homes, charity events). Just my 2 cents.

I have never won a trophy in my life, and I have been doing this for over 50 years; doesn't bother me one bit.

So who wants a "dust collector" anyway? That's all a trophy really is. I have seen (and know) guys who just bought their cars in perfect show condition or paid a shop to do all the work and then feel like they are "special" when they win a trophy. If that's what turns you on- go for it. Me, I don't have that kind of money, nor do I have that attitude.

Stuffing the ballot box - hey, I didn't know Canada had democrats? Am I in trouble for this comment?

Around here we call 'em Ringers - they trailer a car to a show, unload it and all the fluffy doo-dads, plaques, stuffed Elvis dolls....and usually go home with more metal.

Did anyone ever go to an all-Ford show and watch the throngs of people swarm to the Mustangs? I went to 2, second one I left early after it was obvious the judges were 'stang fans and as were the majority of attendees. Most owners of the older and non-pony Fords also saw it and decided to leave early as well.

It's one of the reasons I don't do very many contested or judged 'day shows' but would rather enjoy driving around in my car rather than sitting in a hot lot watching the ringers collect more vanity prizes. But doing events such as at senior centers or the like are a great thing, judged or not and I enjoy them especially if they bring a smile to the face of some when they see the old iron.

Like some others, I'd rather do an evening cruise-in to a local church or community center location, grab a hot dog or 2, then sit and BS with other owners. Ringers usually won't show up at those shows since there's no hardware to claim. The real prize is the camaraderie and stories told; the ringers can't set that on their mantle.

I haven't won a trophy either and I don't care if I ever do. The real prize is to just enjoy life, enjoy the ride, and have a great time.

Awards can be a joke at some events. Several years ago I restored a one owner '69 Mach One Drag Pack car. Restored as originally offered, all the details under the hood, interior, under carriage, etc. Another '69 parks next to me, wrong color paint, wrong wheels, wrong shifter, modified components under the hood, etc. Guess what? He wins the spectator choice award. Go figure? I knew my car was restored perfectly with all date code correct parts.
So I don't put much emphasis on awards. I enjoy talking with people that can appreciate what a car should be, and the amount of effort that goes into restoring old beauties.

I go to a few of the old folks home old car get together. I usually take my Model A. I love the old lady's with a cane ask about my car and say, I remember that rumble seat, MMMMM Walt

I probably shouldn't say this but.... I've never gotten the Mustang thing. They are just so ordinary. Beautiful car production ended in the 50s. But I agree with other posts above , who care about the trophies, a smile from a older person as they remember their youth is worth a million trophies.

A few years ago we had a fellow from up north move into the area with a collection of cars. He even has credentials to judge at certain car shows. Through the years he has accumulated a collection of trophies and after our clubs show last year, he offered to donate some of his trophies to our club to be "re-purposed" at our next show.

I have found Peoples Choice trophies seldom go to deserving cars. As most of you said: so what? One thing that does bug me though is when, at a judges show, a new Corvette wins. All the guy did was write a big check. I have gone to some senior homes shows with my blue '41 coupe and really enjoy the old folks and their memories. The one I always smile at is "We had one like this. It was green and it was a four door and it was a Stoodiebaker, but it was just like this.
