so last night I decided i want to go on a ride in the model A with the top down in a snow storm. Well now you probably Iv lost my mind. I'm driving, my girl friend whos telling me its a reallywe bad idea is next to me and my 16 year old brother and his friend are in the bed. Well I get out of the grage get half way turned around and sank up to my running boards. I shoveled out around and and under the car and its still stuck. I think I need tire chains or something. mabe is some one around the Boston area billerica, lowell, wilmington, area have a set i could borrow just to get it out or someone has a set for sale or someone has a good idea to get the truck out it is about 200 feet form the road up a gravel drive. Any ideas

There was a post a few days ago about "ROPE CHAINS". Go to the Hardware store and get 50 feet of 1/2 inch hemp rope, lace it around the tires and thru the spokes. Or call AAA and pay for a tow.

I got to type faster;)

An old West Virginia rural mail carrier once told me you could put chains on a Model A and go anywhere a 4 wheel drive jeep could go. He wore out several Model A's.

You do not have to have chains made for a Model A or even 4.50 19s or 21 tires. I used chains from my brother's 51 Cadillac in the 60's.

Usually side chains of the wider chains will just ride closer to the center of wheel as they hang over the side.

Used to put two sets on rear wheels and run around the jeep trails in mountains in the snow drifts "showing up" Jeeps. One time I went by 3 new Jeeps in a large snow drift. Went around one, then the second and finally the third. Got to other side and we went back with shovels to help them dig out.

One guy asked where I got the car. I said I bought it for $225 a couple of years earlier.

The second guy said "Da%m I paid $2300 for my new Jeep (was 1963) and you come up here with $225 worth of junk and show me up!

The third guy said one thing:
" JUNK ?? ... Who is in the snow drift and who just went by the three of us and parked on the other side?

I guess if you have to ask the question why, you have forgotten what it's like to be young and adventurous! :) LOL

Yep, when I had my 55 Chevy and was a senior in high school I used to think it was fun to go to side streets and do donuts at the intersections. After sliding into snowbanks and having to shovel my way out a few times, I decided that was enough of this "fun".:(

I would travel to your location and help you man, I like your idea of a travel in the snow, I think a tractor or 4x4 truck is the solution and them try with chains...

I remember trying to take a shortcut over a snowbank in my '54 Ford. Not a good idea, after 2 hours of shoveling it out, I'm still paying for it with slightly frostbitten toes. But, we did dumb things back in high school.

In the rain in my '30 coupe, "MINERVA," I pulled over, turned her off and reminisced while hearing the drops from heaven pounding on my copra roof. Suddenly, I got the urge to find a muddy road, then coming to my senses, I fired her off, vrooom, and went on to the club meeting.

If you know you might be in a area where traction might be a problem to get moving.....Carry a bag of ordinary "Kitty Litter" or container of "Floor Dry" in your vehicle. Just grab a handfull or two, and throw in front of each tire. You'll be on your way !!
