I need the inside dope on MAFCA

I just received my annual MAFCA renewal notice in the mail.
I need help and input on two issues:

First, There is a YES/NO checkbox on Bylaw changes. What is your opinion, and why?

Second, There are seven candidates for the five Board-of-Directors seats up for election. What do you know about the candidates and agendas/ alliances beyond the little 100 word statement from each?

I agree with Purdy. About the only way a Board election can affect your enjoyment of the hobby is if you get elected to the Board!

Blessyouboys i have a question please??? Thankfully ,not in Wisconsin??? Is this some kind of joke i am missing?? For me i can see not being there in winter... i have alot of friends from there and it is a very nice state,,,...Is your X wife there or something like that??

How?

How does MAFCA bylaw changes affect my enjoyment of my Model A?

That's precisely what the original poster was trying to determine, hence why he asked the question he did. Now please stop interrupting the adults when they're talking.

How do the candidates for the MAFCA Board of Directors affect the Model A hobby?

how about for the fact that elected persons determine and help determine the future of the hobby, how about that these persons help guide the future.. i have to say i dont understand your question at all, it seems very obvious how this effects the hobby, there is a lot more to our hobby then just putting parts together, IE: Meets, judging, standards, education, youth...that is how Mikes post effects our hobby.

I was on the Board of Directors of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America for six years. Its not a "cake" position as there is always a member that is unhappy about something at any given moment. I tip my cap to the members of the BODs for MARC and MAFCA.

The MAFCA ballot has 7 candidates for 5 offices. Two are incumbants and almost without question will be re-elected, leaving 3 positions for fresh blood and ideas.

The bylaw changes are something they paid the lawyer for and are essentionally meaningless to us members.

At the national board meeting in Vancouver, board member Dave Jones presented a motion for term limits which would benefit us members greatly by allowing more of us "outsiders" to serve. The board tabled the motion. I will be interested in seeing how it is treated in the board minutes.

Through the years there have been numerous members serve 10, 15 even in excess of 20 years. This has certainly limited new members who may have had new and possibly better ways to serve us members.

I suggest you check the national roster and call each candidate. Ask them what problems they feel exist and what they will do for us members.

As a matter of interest, MAFCA will not permit adding a phone number or e-mail address to those 100 word bio's.

after reading the Proposed Bylaw Changes in The Restorer, they seem both reasonable and necessary.

as to board term limits, a good idea. I have been a local club president twice and edited/published the local newsletter for 5 years. any normal person should be sick & tired of the board job after 4-5 years and resign. if they are not, that's probably also a good reason for them not to continue.

my 2 cents worth, and possibly overpriced.........
