Like Kurt says, spur gears make some noise. It will never be as quiet as a modern transmission. If its not jumping out of any of the gears, I replace the bearings, cluster gear shaft and the reverse idler shaft. The gears are pretty durable. Usually bearing failure is the death of the model A transmission. With new bearings and shafts it may last a life time. Gear noise is more noticable to the driver when the floor boards and mats are out as in testing.
