I just made a dumb mistake

If that's the worst thing you do wrong, you will be doing a lot better than most of us. I twisted a flexible oil line inside the oil pan on a full flow oil filter system, completely stopping oil flow. This was on a newly rebuilt engine that had to be removed from the car and partially dismantled to fix the problem. Talk about making a grown man cry. This nearly made me want to become a stamp collector ;)

Hey John. That will teach you not to use that Mark Kerby full flow system. LOL I hate that setup. Walt

During our stock car days we had to pull the pan on occasion to check the bearings, thus pulling the pan. Using permatex to the block and grease on the pan, meant we didn't ruin the gasket when pulling the pan.. I still do this, force of habit.

Ron, It's all your fault!! In chapter 19 (putting it all together) you didn't mention that the flywheel goes on before the pan on a 59ab. Ha ha! just kidding! I should have know better!

I never told anyone this, before ....Back in the day, late 40's a neighbor gave me a 29 Model A twodr sedan, rough, but it ran ?? cleaned it up a bit, got two solid wheels for the front, still had tall wire spoke wheels, on the rear, boy did it look odd, took two/three leafs out of the front spring, dumped it down in the front, and way high in the rear, so from the back you could see all the read end, all dirty, grease, oil and one tail pipe, so I took the rear end out and apart, cleaned and painted nice shiny "sea foam green" leaf over from house trim paint ?? put it back in and ... NOW for some reason I have three speeds backwards, and one speed forward in reverse ?? now your laffffffghing yes I put the ring gear on the wrong side of the pinion ... so it had to come apart again, scuffed my nice new paint job,put it back ( I did not have a spring spreader, ether ??) in and all OK
......do I haft to sigh my name here ................OLD.....BILL .............one of the cars I wish I still had...

almost all my mistakes have been made when tired ,when i start to trip over things when the airline gets caught up in anything in the way when dragging it to the other end of the garage , i don't know how many of you are like me but i can ever go straight off to sleep,i lie there and think out problems and sometimes as i,m drifting off the answer sort of comes to me . an example ,last winter we had SERIOUS snow ,next to my garage /workshop i built a sort of lean to shed with a fibreglass roof held by a few wooden joists ,well the weight of the snow on the roof was making the roof buckle a bit ,the shed held some of my old English bikes ,a 57 lambretta and a 1942 Harley 45,anyway to support the roof and stop it going lower i put an accro (a heavy steel prop used in the building trade to support a roof/ceiling during building work) a few days into the bad weather and the snowing had long stopped ,i was laying in bed drifting off and it hit me .....i almost ran out to the shed at midnight ,first thing in the morning i went to the shed and my thoughts/dream was sadly right ,the snow had started to melt .the roof lifted up and the heavy steel accro had fallen across the lambretta and left a large dent and scrape across an immaculate black shiny side panel.,and clipped the rear mudguard on my 50 panther ..gutted ..another lesson learned , do the roof properly in the first place , thanks jim.

Thanks Jim, now I'm sad for those cool old bikes.
