I have never seen this before

I just disassembled a pair of 46-48 brake back plates with all the brake parts, Wheel cyl, shoes, springs, etc and found something strange. When I removed the cotter pins on the shoe anchor plate and removed the brake shoe anchor pin plate(51A2030), I found a gasket? between the plate and shoes. This gasket was shaped about like the plate. I have done many brake jobs on this type brakes, but I have never seen a gasket here?? Anyone seen this?

I have the manuals on CD. The diagram for 46-48 brakes do not show a gasket. It makes me wonder if it is an aftermarket thing to prevent brake squeal.

Diagram shows no gasket nor is any listed in the parts book.

What I have in mine is a "warped washer", for want of a better description, that is under the retaining plate presumably to eliminate rattle. I don't see that on the diagram or in the parts list either.

No, I have not seen a gasket as you described. However, the concept might have some merit.
