Thanks Ron, (and all) I'm kinda leaning towards going straight to the 3-5/16. I already have the pistons. I have to weigh up how many times I would expect to rebuild the engine in my lifetime (I'm 55) I don't tend to rack up high mileages.

Excuse the question if its been already discussed on another thread,but what do you do to rear of the block to get it in an early (34) car? Those acessory bosses on the back wont clear the firewall so what do you do with them? Cut them off ?

I do believe they just grind them off. There are pics out there of the before and after - google French Flatheads or french block and you should find it

That's a long outlet on the RH water pump. Why is that?

Most of the big trucks with 59AB have that long snout water pump, they have bearings and usually dual belt shives. I have a set on my 40 because when I was running a super charger the 2 belts would wear the bushing out on a car pump. Walt
