In the '46-'48 Service Manual, Ford specifies M-3833 hydraulic brake fluid for the master cylinder and M-4633-B for the shocks. Are these still available or can other product be used? ie; I have DOT-3 brake fluid on hand will I be OK using this for the master cylinder. What can I use in the shocks?
Thanks very much barners for all the wonderful advise and information gathered here. You are all great! :)

If the shocks are new ask the manufacturer. If the shocks are rebuilt ask the rebuilder. You should know what type of seals were used on the shocks.

I did some testing of clutch slave cylinders a long time ago and we found that Dot 4 fluid was far better than Dot 3. Other than a brief excursion into silicone fluid 25 years ago I've used Dot 4 in everything I have had since.

Thanks Vic, Charlie & Mart.
I am quite sure that the brake cylinders are original as well as the shocks. Is Bill Wzorek on this site or do you know if he has a web site?

Thanks very much again !!

do not put brake fluid in the shocks. it will cause them to leak. that was a proulbem years ago when these cars were every day cars. i don,t know about dot 5 it was not around then.
