This transmission cover happened to be on an engine I got yesterday. From what I've been googling about it, it seems to be a useful item.

And rather scarce - counting your recent acquisition, I now know of 4 of them - mine is going into our '19 Centerdoor on the next occasion of the engine being removed.

The left side of the special hogs head with the pedals, bolts removed, lifts off, easier access to change the bands.

That's a great idea,if you have quick change bands does it offer any advantage? it seems that it would be a potential oil leak.It always amazed me as to all the contraptions invented to "improve" a already great car.

From what I read, they will leak, but modern sealants will take care of that problem. These covers must have been an expensive solution to something that wasn't a problem to most people, which would account for its rarity these days.
