Hubcaps

It was a nice cool morning and I decided to take the 36 to work this morning. When I got to work I noticed that that one of my hubcaps was missing. Luckily after retracing my steps, I found it at the rail road crossing! It looks like 2 of the prongs is broken off so I am afraid that it will fall of again....any suggestions to keep it snug?

Are the broken prongs you mention actually the spring clips on the wide 5 wheel? If two of those spring clips are broken there is no way you will keep a hubcap on that wheel. To my knowledge no one makes those spring clips. If you can find an old w5 wheel, you could remove the spring clips and replace the broken ones on your wheel.

I have the same problem on my 36 pickup but I still have all of the clips, they just don't keep the caps on? What can be done?

If you have all the clips, take a cold chisel and near the tangent point of the clip, give the chisel a little whack with a hammer.
This will put the spring clip back to where it was originally (or thereabouts). It does help...

Kube, do you know of a source for those W5 wheel spring clips? I salvaged some from some old W5 wheels that I scrapped a few years ago. I have since given or sent those to other Fordbarners in need. If no one is currently making these, it looks like there is a definite market for them. I guess cost of tooling would not be a good pay back with limited sales potential. Maybe someone could find a similar part that would work and is already tooled and readily available.

John, I know of no one that makes those clips. I had 100 of then made years ago but like you, they have been sold, donated and used up.
The tooling would not be too costly. It would be a fairly simple die in fact.
The market???

If you have the clips & the cap is just loose try clear silicone . Just a few dabs around the edge of the cap.
