hubcaps

I have a '46 ford pickup with 5x51/2 wheels from the later ford pickups that use dogdish hubcaps. If I can get them, and if they will fit these wheels, I would like to use 1950 Merc hubcaps.

My wheels have outside knubs @ about 10" OD. And, as you know, the stock ford rear end has the axles that protrude. Does anyone know if the Merc caps will fit over the knubs, and will they be deep enough to clear the castle nut on the rear axles ? Thanks for any info. bill

If I remember correctly Ford truck and Mercury are different size where hub caps snap on.

I agree. Original Merc hubcaps fit only Merc wheels. The later Ford pick up wheels also have knubs on the inside which fit the small dog dish caps but NOT the Merc caps. But here's an option.

Also the 49-51 Merc wheels will fit your pickup. When I had 50 merc wheels on my 40 Ford the Merc hubcap the rear castle nut/axle did interfere with the Merc hubcap. Perhaps changing the wheel backspacing would have solved the problem. 49-51 Lincoln wheels are 15 x6 (7 in total width) and 50 Merc hubcaps will not fit them. 49-51 Merc wheels are 15 x 5 1/2 (total 6 1/2in). Car in photo has 50 Merc wheel up front and 50 Lincoln wheels on rear. 50 Merc hubcaps wouldn't fit rear so I didn't use the caps. Those are port-a walls.
