Hub to Wheel adapter Question

I am wanting to run Model A rims/wheels on a Ford rearend with a standard bolt pattern of 5 x 4-1/2. I have found some Adapter at Sumit Racing made by Rugged Ridge (part number 15201.01 ) that show to be 5 x 4-1/2 for the hub and the wheel to be 5 x 5-1/2 bolt pattern.

Has anyone used these before for this application or is there another way to do this?

Thanks for the help.

there is a lot of them on ebay and for half the price they work just fine. but you do have a wider wheel base. I have a set on a ford 8"

Adapters are never a good idea. They have a bad habit of breaking, coming loose, and generally being a pain in the butt.

You would do much better to get your axles re-drilled with the proper lug pattern.

Well I have heard this from several people and it makes be a bit cautious.

Look carefully at the Model A brake drum/hub assembly. There is a raised ring in the center. Be sure the adapters you select have this raised area. Although the post is not exactly what you are talking about you can see the ring that I am referring to at: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8330045&highlight=stephens#post8330045

Thanks for the info and the link. I called Sumit and talked to the "tech" department and they could not tell me anything and did not know if the adapter would even work for my requirment.

I am quite certain that these adapters will not let you adapt Model A wheels to a 5 on 4.5 rear end. The Model a wheels are supported in a number of places on the Model A hub/drum. The later drums are flat, missing these supports. Re-drilling the hubs would result in the same problems. I doubt the adapters would even fit to let you mock it up. Look at the way the Model A wheel fits the Model A drum and then look at the adapter bolted to the hub and you will see the problem.

You are most likely correct. I did not know if someone had figured out a way to make this work.

How about using the adapter and 1935-16" wheels as an option

Coker Tire offers some new un-painted spoked wheels with the 5 x 4-1/2 bolt pattern and looking at all the cost involved trying to use adapters, it probably would be better to use the new Coker Wheels. Thanks guys

The is a picture on HAMB that shows an adapter with the correct ring in the center. Check post #3 at http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=789710&highlight=post8330045.
