How to start a low compression flathead?

Good time to check the valve springs for a broken one while the intake is off too. I see the penny is Canadian...are you in Canada?

Great story--Love to see good stuff happening.
Since you mentioned you are new to 6V systems--have you looked at the wiring between the battery and the starter? 6V systems need much larger cables than 12 volt ones. if you are used to seeing 12v wiring, what you have may look fine to you, but be too small for the job.

Visual example of the wire size difference. All the battery, starter and Ground cables for the engine & starter will work better if they're the larger "0" gauge, or "1" gauge at the least.

I know what you mean, and I know for sure it has the original cables, very heavy duty as shown in the dmsfrr pics.

I parked my other 54 Meteor near this Skyliner yesterday, and if anything the Skyliner turns over quicker haha.

Still working on the car, it's getting better the more I mess with it.

To answer a question asked at the beginning of this thread, the starter solenoid changed design in 1951. The 1937 through 1950 solenoid activates by the starter button grounding the trigger wire. The 1951 through 1955 starter solenoid activates by the starter switch sending voltage to the trigger wire.

The difference can be seen (with a bit of tedious tracing) on the 1950 and 1951 wiring schematics available on Van Pelt's website:
