How to remove the running board trim

I have a '29 Tudor and want to replace the rotted rubber mats. The boards have a chromed edge inside and outside that looks like it simply clips over the edge of the board. I would like to remove the trim, replace the rubber, and then replace the trim pieces.

But the trim pieces are a b..ch to remove! Oh, I am sure I could get them off and destroy them in the process, but I would rather get them off undamaged so they can be reinstalled

Is there a trick to getting these trim pieces off without tearing them up?

Thanks.

Looking at the suppliers' catalogs, it looks like the trim is installed by putting it in place and then bending the bottom around the bottom edge of the steel running board. Is that correct? And if so, does the trim need to be straightened (i.e., unwrapped) from the bottom of the running board to remove it?

Sheesh! What a PITA! Sure glad I love my A!

Yes, that is correct on both counts. Not an easy task but with patience and care you can do it. To make the job easier when I did my town sedan I bought the new zinc trim from Bratton's and didn't sweat saving the old stuff which wasn't in good enough shape to reuse.

A quick question with an easy answer hopefully....does the top edge of the zinc trim sit on top of the rubber mat or underneath it? ie which is installed on the running board first, the trim or the rubber? 28 Tudor.

Thanks, Gus
