how to remove tapered grease fittings

you mean original style press in? if you dont plan to reuse them locking pliers and a little twist and usually pop out.

I couldn't get mine to pop out. I ended up drilling out with a tap drill for a 1/4-28 thread and tapping with a 1/4-28 tap. Installed a new fitting into the hole. So far it is working well and looks almost like it belongs there.

when i restored my front end, i removed all the press in fittings with a small channel locks.. after refinishing / restoring all the parts i installed new press in style replacements...

I have had good luck using a hammer and cold chisel. With light hammer taps work around the edge of the fitting and gently wedge the fitting up and out of the socket. The key word is "gentle” so you wedge the fitting up and not cut it off!!!
