How to remove an 1939 flywheel from a 59a-b

I have a 1939 model Flywheel On my 59 a-B engine. I’m trying to remove the flywheel and replace it with a New flywheel and clutch. I have removed the oil pan. The old flywheel will not come out. It is catching at the top of the bell housing. Suggestion?

Mark, If you have the oil pan off, there's no reason the flywheel can't be removed.
Obviously you've removed the safety wire and four bolts that attach the flywheel to the crankshaft.

Apparently the flywheel is simply stuck. Nothing a little persuasion won't help with.

Assuming you have the transmission pulled... It was installed somehow. Should nearly fall off/down if its loose.

as soon as its off the dowel pins it has to come off. you have removed the pressure plate?

Ah, good point the dowel pins might be following the flywheel. I don't think the crank lip and flywheel is wider then 1/2". Might have to tap the pins back to the crank. They are not fixed to the crank or flywheel.

Not like its a 4" thick model A flywheel. :)

The old clutch and pressure plate and the four bolts have been removed. It seems to be catching on the bell housing

Tomorrow go out with a flash light and take a couple minutes looking at your situation. Tomorrow is another day.

Just tap them in with a small punch or drift through the flywheel. You should be able to see it quite easily.

Normally they are pressed into the crank.

Can you rotate the crank a little. It'll align the the pins in another position and it may clear better

Rotate the crank a little , it just puts the pins in another position.
