How to position windshield hinge gasket?

Here are two photos of the edge of the rubber gasket that goes between the windshield hinge and the body.

How is the gasket to be positioned? What portion of the gasket projects out from the frame? Portion A or portion B?

Is the right photo or the left photo upside down? They both can't be correct.
