How To Lube Clamshell From the Top - An Idea

Just a month short of eight years. Good to see posts of Old Henry again, wish they were current. One of the most dedicated of V8ers ever to post here. Hell, I wish I was eight years younger again too!

I put a right angled fitting into the clamshell. then made a small hose up and took it to a little mount and fitting I made on the chassis rail next to where a left hand drive steering box would be, now I just lift the hood and there it is.

Lawrie's solution is commonly used in the Model T community. It is a good option for Fords cars made through 1936 and Ford trucks made through 1937, where the hood side opens for easy access.

I have a greasegun fitting with a rubber tip that would jam in there pretty good. I've had it for 40+ years, so I have no idea where I got it.

Boy, getting old is something, seems like every day, something else comes up where I don't remember how I happened to obtain it.

So, here's what I did.

Replaced the 90° stock zerk with a straight one and put the bottom clam shell on the top so that it is accessible from

The zerk can be used as such but is not necessary nor the best use. I use it only as a plug for the hole. When time to fill or add grease, I remove it and the coupler on the grease gun and just shove the grease gun tube into the hole. It fits perfectly. Then I can really get some volume into that black hole fast. around the zerk when they were done I doubted much got in. Now, I can be sure there's enough and fill it much faster, easier and with greater confidence.
