how to id an engine block

have a ford engine block but want to know where to find the markings to identify it...a guide to how to id it so that I can figure out a value to place selling vs scrapping. It might be a 289 or 302 and we know nothing about it's mechanical condition. my dad had it on a stand for many years and passed away before doing anything with it.

1 right down all the #'s you can find and
post them
say whether they're on block or heads
2 post pic's
3 add some more info
what car was it out, etc
