Assuming you are running a stock setup, what's the recommended interval for regapping plugs?

Ford recommends cleaning the plugs every 5,000 miles and replacing them every 10,000. The cleaning at 5,000 miles is a good time to check the gaps and adjust if necessary.

I just install new ones once a yr regardless of mileage, for $16 they are not worth farting with,OMO. ken ct.

old henery has it right that,s what we did then .but today since they removed the lead in the fuel spark plugs last a lot longer .a reg plug today can go 50 to 100 thousand miles also exhaust systems last much longer.

In my experience, Flatheads like to run a little rich (fuel mixture) which tends to shorten the life of spark plugs, so scheduled cleaning is not a bad idea however, spark plugs are still inexpensive enough to replace rather then clean and re gap if necessary. I run Autolite 216's in all of our Flatheads (V8's & V-12's) with original heads and Autolite 437's in Flatheads with Offy heads.

Plugs are like a*s holes ,every one has one ,i prefer Champ in 18 mm for my 36 been using them for 20 yrs "D-21" Only time had a problem was 1 set of NGK's a couple of yrs ago. Went back to Champ. omo ken ct.

Thanks, my problem is that I have to use vintage plugs because of my hook-end ignition wires with the caps, so "use 'em and chuck 'em" isn't an option. I need these H-10s to last!

just a thought. Rock Auto has Autolite 216 plugs for $1.18 ea. w/$.50 rebate from Autolite. Maximum rebate is 16 plugs. why not buy 16 anyway. it lowers shipping costs....jack

I remember taking the plugs out of my fathers car, filing the center electrode flat and gapping them ----if you keep your mixture correct, and don't burn oil the plugs can go a long time between filing/gapping --and much longer before replacing, I have been using the same 3X repro plugs in my "A" for over 35 years.

There is a small sandblaster that is made for sparkplugs (Harbor freight is one place that has them) ------don't use a wire brush to clean plugs, some of the metal from the bristles can be ground off and stay on the center insulater and make it not an insulater
