How much play in model “A” u-joint

Friend is working on a Model A and is concerned about the play in the u-joint off the transmission. He claims he has about a 100thou side to side by NO rotational play.
How much is too much?

normal - the side to side allows for alignment— both the driveshaft and transmission shaft are supported by bearings,the u joint just needs to be tight in the rotational direction
