How much paint to spray a coupe?

I know this has come up before, but I wasn't listening very well :o....need help!

Using PPG Concept acrylic urethane, aprox how much paint should be ordered for the Black?
...we're talking fenders and aprons, BOTH sides glossy & the roof from beltline up.

Any ideas for the complete body colour?
...here we're talking everything BOTH sides again (the car is bare) so subframe, firewall, hood, decklid, doors & gastank together with the rest of my cab shell.

I'm "guessing" 1.5 gallons of black plus reducer & catalyst?
And maybe 2 gallons of green plus the reducer & catalyst?

P.S. I'm aware of the safety aspects of using this product, but haven't painted in over a dozen years so lost track of some things...er well actually ALOT of things :o ...thanks.

For the body color portions of my sedan (including upper and lower floorpans, etc. I used about 2 or 2.5 quarts for everything but the hood (which I'll get to next spring). So a gallon should be sufficient for any body style. As for the black, it's too early for me to say.

BTW, I did three coats.

I think your 2 gallons for the body is a little high, If you paint the car 3 coats (to color sand safely), I think you could get by with 3 quarts of Concept plus 1 pt of catalyst and some (1 1/2 qts) reducer (cheap compared to the paint). I believe a gallon of paint is only a little more than 3 quarts, so it would probably be safer to buy a gallon so you have some left in case of a painting mistake (repaint) or an accident. I painted my special coupe, which has a fabric top to the beltrail, and I used a slightly more than 2 quarts of Concept without the hood being painted yet (only thing left to paint body color). I bought 3 quarts and will have plenty left for any repairs I might need to do. Since your coupe probably has a painted top, you would need a little more than I did.

Do not buy anything but Gallons. Quarts are to expensive so if you buy gallons you can always share with other restorers if you bought to much. Quarts are real expensive,
I just told a club member to only buy gallons and whatever he does not use I will buy from him,
I always ask the dealer forthe best discount also,
It does not hurt to ask,

I was just at the local DuPont dealer this past week asking about paint for my 29 CCPU. They told me about 2 quarts for the black and 1 gallon for the body color would be sufficient. As my project is still pretty far off, we did not go into much detail.

The one thing that no one mentioned (--or at least I did not see it) is much of this depends on the type, AND quality of the spray gun. A cheaper gun will not atomize as well, plus it just puts a bunch of it out into the air that turns into dust.

That's a very good point Brent. AT this point I'm really just trying to decide whether to obtain good paint while it's still available :confused:
Brent have you guys had ANY experiance spraying the new low voc PPG concept paints? Any thoughts ...or rumors even:rolleyes:.... on the performance?
Thanks ... Craig.

Also it is good to have some left over in case of a mishap. Ken's advice on the gallons is good especially sharing with others. This will reduce the cost for both of you. Even the reducer can be shared if it is not all used.
