How much oil do I add when changing the oil?

My dipstick marks are gone and I am wondering if I have been adding the right amount of engine oil.

Under the assumption that the oil pan drip-tray holds some oil, after draining the oil pan for an oil change, I've been adding exactly 4 quarts of oil. Is that the correct amount for a 1931 Model A Ford engine?

Thank you!

a dry sump and tray will hold 5 qts
the sump holds 1/2 qt
so you might be a 1/2 qt short...
i never had a problem with leaks by filling it to the proper level.

Once the correct amount has been established buy an original dip stick at a flea market or mark yours with a hacksaw blade or an engraving tool. Wayne
