How much does it cost to rebuild a 1947 Flathead

Seems similar to mine. Parked since early 60’s. In the end I took it all apart. You can check out my thread in my signature I’d you’d like. I think my flathead was about $8000-$10000 at the end of the day. I stopped counting. That was with me doing everything but the machine work on the engine. New pistons, rods, got lucky with a practically free 4” merc crank, new valve train, new aluminum heads, upgraded ignition, new isky cam etc.

Unless they're completely trashed, try to save the Edmunds heads. I am really only familiar with their 8BA versions, but I don't see any reason why the pre-49 units should be any different. Edmunds heads are unique in that they have the spark plug relocated just enough that it isn't directly over the exhaust valves like stock heads an all other aftermarket brands. This allows the use of extended tip plugs that I have found have better performance and longevity.

The 312 y-block in my 57 Fairlane had a mouse nest in one cylinder. The mouse had came in around the exhaust valve. That cylinder had to be sleeved

Machine shop bill was about CAN$2,700 about 4-5 years ago (pre-Covid). Engine was already disassembled. I supplied the reground cam, new cam gear, new lifters, pistons, rings, and bearings. This was for the short block. Probably spent another $2K for misc parts/hardware. Had the generator and stater rebuilt locally. I rebuilt the 94 carb, helmet distributor, fuel pump, and oil pump. Used stk iron heads and an earlier aluminum Ford intake. Figure around CAN$5K for the finished engine back then, but I assembled the long block. Biggest influence on price will be any aftermarket heads, intake, and carbs. You could spend multiple thoudands just on those items.
