How much Cascade

How much should I add to my cooling system in order to remove the oil and grease buildup? Yes, I will be driving it..

I hope you're talking about low sudsing dishwash detergent. How much oil and grease is in the system? You may have to do the treatment more than once to get it clean. I'd put in about a 1/2 cup the first time and see how it goes.

I would use a cup or two of Simple Green, we used it for cleaning radiators that had suffered from leaking transmission or engine oil coolers on modern cars, you can find Simple Green at hardware stores.

There are better, and more powerful things to use,but we always used Cascade in the 855 and 927 Cummins engines for a reason. It leaves almost no residue behind.Working on the A at home isn't a problem to rinse it out,but if you are on the clock for a customer you can't be taking the time to run through a couple of rinse cycles.I like Lestoil in the A.I dump the whole bottle in,(small size),top it off with water, and drive it for a week or two.It DOES take a few rinse cycles to get rid of it though. When it is in there you will smell Lestoil all the time within 5 feet of the car.

Dawn cuts grease and oil real good, would that work?
Plus you can get it in a summer breeze smell.

Hi Kingbee,

If you call the POR 15 Co. to ask about their "Marine Clean" Product, they may be able to confirm using it for radiators if the technician has had experience with same or heard of same.

I always experiment with products and things I think will work .............. whether they are manufacturer recommended or not.

Similar to cooking ...... folks who usually follow exact recipes written in cook books usually wind up eating out every night .......... most good chefs do not have time to share and write good recipe books.

I used about 1 part POR Marine Clean to about 6 parts water in my "original" radiator and block cooling system to clean old grease and grease adhered rust flakes.

Marine Clean works faster and far more efficiently when heated ..... like that of in a vehicle's cooling system.

After cleaning with same and flushing, while driving on a 100 degree day, my water temperature has yet to go over 180 degrees F.

Cascade it a brand of beer here in Oz. It sounded like you were running your A on it :-)

I "wonder" if some cleaners or vinegar, might be harmful to "leakless" water pump seals?
Bill Worry

The vinegar will loosen the rust and circulate it, which would probably eat up the seal. I used a stock rear bushing during my month of running vinegar, then installed a new rear bushing with the double lip rear seal after everything was cleaned and flushed and new antifreeze installed.

For those that run plain water, you'll soon be circulating rusty water.
