im looking to buying a flathead crank..it already has been re-grounded balanced..wont be using it for anytime soon.it might sit for a year..so my question is how long can a crank sit for??any info will help thanks

Cosmoline/Grease it up, tape off the journals, build a cradle and it could sit for 100 years. It's not made out of cottage cheese...

You might think about standing it on end instead of using a cradle. Every engine shop I know of does this......saves on the cost of the cradle and eliminates any chances of sagging due to long term material creep if the cradle is not a near precision unit. Just my experience.....

Standing it on end is a good way. Let me add that you probably ought to tie it off. This is a lesson I've learned the hard way...slim

I doubt any bend will occur from just laying it down but most shops either
stand them on end or hang them from the flange or an end counterweight.
I question the fact your crank has been balanced unless you have all the rods, pistons, bearings, rings etc etc to go with it. A standard 2 plane v8 crank can not be balanced properly by itself.
