how does original 52 ford sedan fender skirts mount ???? i see these reproductions say they mout as flush mount i take it the originals dnt mount that way

The factory made fender skirts mount flush and there are NO loose parts, brackets, etc for mounting. The mounting mechanism is built-in on the backside.

There are aftermarket skirts that do not have the built-in clamp mounting mechanism. They have loose brackets and fasteners to attach the skirt to the well opening.

There is another type known as "cruiser skirts" that mount on th outer surface of the fender. They are drastically oversized with respect to the well opening and give the car a radical custom look.

There were two major types of Fender Skirts (aka Fender Shields): factory style and aftermarket. All 1952-1954 Ford and Mercury (and Meteor and Monarch) were interchangeable.
The skirt attached by a “hook” to the lower lip of the wheel well opening and a means to connect to a front and rear clip on the lower edge of the wheel well opening. The Factory style used pins (or pegs) to sit into front and rear clips whereas Aftermarket Skirts (usually Foxcraft) had clips that extended into slits in the skirt itself. Each skirt also had a weather strip or gasket that sat between the skirt and the wheel well.
The skirts did look a bit different although interchangeable. Factory skirts were very narrow (4.5 inches at the minimum width) and the Aftermarket Skits were a bit wider (6.5 inches at minimum width).
Factory Mercury Skirts were smooth whereas Ford had a ridge at the bottom edge. Most Skirts one sees today that are repoed are the aftermarket style and wider.
To install skirts you need to have brackets (may be on the car) and gaskets.
Finding the clips for the factory style can be problematic but they come up for sale on occasion.
