How do you tighten 28-29 hub caps?

I am having trouble tightening my hub caps on a 29 Model A Ford. Does anyone have a method for tightening these caps? I have tried the O rings, and silcone does not seem like a good solution. Thanks for any help.

I put the cap on, and turn the wheel over so the cap is resting on a towel that is on a piece of foam, and use a long punch and hammer to fold over 4 or 5 ears of the cap. Then I put a dab of silicone on the folded over ears to stop any rattle.

Original '28/29' caps were simply pressed on at the factory after the wheels were mounted. The tabs were not bent over but did hold the cap into place. I installed several NOS caps and that way and they did indeed stay in place and were on tight. I can't imagine that repep caps will be the same. Do as 2manycars suggests and bend some of the tabs over on the inside to hold them in place.

All of the 28-29 hubcaps in my collection have the tabs bent so that they will snap on like modern hubcaps. I use a pair of slip joint pliers and bend the tabs on the 30-31 hub caps so that they can be snapped on, they fit tightly and can be snapped on and off. It may take a little practice but the same should apply to any of the model A hub caps. I've seen some of the repro hub caps that the tabs may bee too short to bend and shape in this manner.

I have a early 1928 aa with the rare hub Caps, I used clear silcone , If you bend the tabs over a few times they will brake . I have never had one come off and you cant see the silcone

You don't need to bend all the tabs. Three or four will hold them in, and silicone works fine to eliminate rattles and hold them in place.
