How do I remove the venturi ?

What is the best way to remove the venturi on my Zenith side bowl carb. Looks like the bowl gasket needs to seal between it and the upper carb body. thanks for the help

They can most certainly be tricky. Some are made of pot metal which will swell and crack like mine did. The carb I bought the venturi had broken in two right at the seam between the halves. I carfully cut the lower half and used a chisel to knock the pieces out without damaging the shelf it sits on in the casting, and used a socket in the upper half and beat that portion out with a hammer (I don't have a press or I would have been a little smarter with that, but it worked ok)

Heated the carb with propane torch and poured cold water on it and the venture just about popped out. WORD TO THE WISE....wait for it to cool before you touch it.

Per one of the books, I melted one of mine out (it was broken) and replaced with aftermarket.

Another I made myself a "puller" out of a pipe coupling and a couple of washers and a bolt.

I recommend you replace it with one from Synders, they are turned aluminum and are very nice and seem to work well. I use them on my carb rebuilds.

Here is their info:
The 'single' style venturi for the Zenith carb. This is a fully machined part so the inside diameter is smooth for proper air flow. Not a cheap die cast piece! The best venturi on the market...
Part Number Specifics Price A-9586 1928-31 $4.95 / ea.

On the other hand, the "cheap die cast" originals fit nice and tight, whereas the machined aluminum repros I've had are sloppy loose, not fit for use.

Originals are always the first choice for me.

Plus one on that comment. The melted down venturi was replaced with the aftermarket venturi available then - the carb still sits on my shelf un proof tested.

I hope the sizing has been improved since then. Snyder's is usually pretty good about details like that.

I just a new aluminum venturi and it is to big to fit the carb.
Can it be machined down to make it fit? It seems just a tad oversized.

Snyders offers a Venturi puller for $16.75 . If you are only doing one carb, its cheaper to use the torch and replace the venturi with a good used or new venturi .

Well...I made a puller,...out of the 3 I did, I got one out. Not a bed of roses.
I'd take an oversized Aluminum Venturi, machine it to fit, check the inside
shape, then hard Anodize it.........should make it about $65.
