How Did The Factory Do It?

Yes it's a trivial question but I just had to ask. Putting a new speedo cable in my '51 with new firewall grommet. With the cable ends being what they are, I'll have to cut the grommet to get cable through. I don't think the factory did that did they?

Probably the grommet was part of the speedo cable assembly. When installing, the cable had three attachment points, one at each end and the grommet attachment point. just a guess.

Some end fittings screw on/off the cable's sheath if its spiral wound.
