Hello everyone!
It's my first post here on the barn so i hope i get it right
I was going to put a HC head on my 29 engine and decided to pull the pan and side cover for some cleaning and look over the mains at the same time, all went well until i cleaned the surface for the exhaust manifold and found this crack!
What to do? How bad is this?

Unfortunately I can not help you with the mechanical problem but I would like to welcome you to the Barn. You will find the members very knowledgable and eager to help. Good luck and happy motoring. Wayne from Canada

all depends how far you want to get into it?

as colin said, you could have it repaired- I am guessing you dont have a big selection of "new" engines in Sweden.
Over here, I would just get another engine..............

I would "try" a Jar of the regular old BARS-LEAKS. I've had great success with similar type cracks, using it.
Mitch will probably say TSK-TSK---Medic in a JUG!!!--LOL

I've been following this post, and I wanted to know if it can be notched out and apply JB weld ?

Hi Ridge,

1. Did you notice whether or not if this crack "leaked" water before "and" after running engine prior to dismantling?

2. Or is it possible that this crack was previously treated with a vintage solution where this this crack rusted up solid like a 70 year old rusted steel head stud in an 80 year old cast iron block where neither 80 foot-pounds of torque and even a violent impact hammer cannot break it loose?

3. Vintage mechanics had vintage mechanic's medicine we never hear about today.

Just wondering??????

although I am all for JB weld, I wouldnt go that route on that crack.

Hello again..
I tried to take some better pictures, I can't see or feel the crack in the port and i haven't noticed any leaks. If it leaks into the port i guess it will follow the exhausts out? There haven't been any white smoke and i can't see any trace of water in the manifold
As for the pin and stitch thing i don't know if someone in sweden does this or if i can do it myself if i get hold on the things needed

Tough call being is Sweden, but in the states I'd use another block. If you can't get it stitched, then I'd try some sealer, even though you didn't see it leak.

BTW, your avatar looks a lot like the 1947 Dodge business coupe my uncle used to own. Wish I had that car now, as it was a neat car to drive. The fan belt broke once way out in rural farm country, and I had to use some bailing twine as a belt to get back to my uncle's house.

In your confessional question, How bad is this?

There are many opinions with religions of today.

Some require to be sitting in a Constructed Box every Sunday.

Some will offer rewards Out-of-the-Box.

How long has this engine been running with "no" leaks?

Can it last as long as before .............. after reassembly?

This is not much help, but life is composed of taking chances every day.

Something tells me you will decide after thinking about it.

What does it look like from the top? Is it cracked into the cylinder? If not I think I would also take Jackson's advise.

Guess i try some bars leaks and hope for the best then, there are plenty of blocks around here so i think i can find a better one but it would be great to use the one i have in the meantime.
