Houdaille Shocks

I purchased a set of "Houdaille type" shocks at a local swap meet. The seller had most of the suspension from a 35 Ford that he had put a street rod frame under. These are the rear shocks. The numbers do not match the "35-36" book numbers. A internet search has not turned up the numbers I have. Can anyone identify the part numbers 1948 OP and 1948 TP. Thanks, Paul

The part numbers for the Chassis Parts Books are not on the shocks. It is possible Bill Wzorek (who rebuilds shocks) can help with the numbers, but I suspect not. Best to post a photo or two.

You are correct.
That # does not ring a bell.

This will bolt up to the stock opening at the rear of my '35 frame. The lever arm fits and lines up with dog bones.

I would like to use them on the rear of my '35 coupe. Not being Ford specific part numbers am I looking at ride/damping problems using them or should they be ok....

Fit em and drive it. Chances are, if they are in good condition they will work fine. They look adjustable, so you can see if you can feel the difference at different settings.
Mart.

With a shock in a bench vise and the arm installed, push and pull the arm to check the action. Yopu should feel a fair resistance and smooth movement of the arm through the complete stroke. If the arm has any free play or jerky movement, or no movement at all, you may need a rebuild.

I adjusted my shocks by clamping both together in a vise, and operating the arms simultaniously to compare one against the other. The hardest part of doing this was to get them both in the vise at the same time!
