Hot water line

Need help connecting hot water lines on 39 ford flathead, does anyone know the correct way to hook up water lines to the heater? On my flathead the lower hose nipple is on the left side, is this correct or do I have to have it on the right side facing the motor? Any info or advice would be appreciated! Thanks Jim
