Horn Wires

Having discovered that a previous owner had soldered the wire plugs into the sides of the clamp on the bottom of the horn instead of sliding them under the ends of the clamp, I pulled the horn off and cleaned that up. Now the question is as I put the wires back on, which end of the clamp do they slide under? Does the yellow wire go under the end of the clamp nearest the radiator, or under the end nearest the left fender? I didn't see that bit of info on any wiring diagrams or in previous threads. So, which wire goes to which end?

Whoops...I think I already found the answer on an old post. Apparently, it doesn't matter which wire goes to which end, since the horn is always 'hot.' Thanks anyway......now I'll look for some good posts on cleaning and lubricating the horn.

Just to give you some food for thought, I just talked to the four fellows listed at the sticky page here in the Horn section who do horn repairs. Each and every one of them was a living bundle of information regarding horns and what to do with them. I feel it would be worth your time to make those four calls and speak to each with any questions at all, as I found them well worth talking to and their expertise is amazing.

My own horn is a reproduction and some do not work on those at all. Believe me, they all have more work than one can imagine lined up for themselves with national meets and all going on in the future. I'd post their email addys, but I am hesitant to do that without their permission.

None answered my initial phone call, but I left a phone message and they each returned my call quickly and were not hesitant at all to discuss my issues. I sent photos to some through their email and they knew exactly what the issue was by looking the photos over.

Good luck on your fix.

Thanks for the tips.....got my horn going this morning - seems to have been a case of old wire connections that were loosened, some lubrication and playing with the adjustment screw. Sounds off loud and clear now. Thanks again.

so does it make the full AHOOOGA sound now or is it just the AHOO or just the GAAA? Or is it more of a sick cow sound? :P
