Horn ring assembly

Does anyone have a better diagram of how all the little piece parts stack up than what is shown in the Parts & Accessories catalog? I disassembled the steering wheel along with all the parts more than 10 years ago. The memory isn't what it used to be. This is for my '54.

I played with the parts until I found the correct combination. For future reference using my parts car horn ring.

First the center. It has a centering notch on the top. Then the piece with the tangs that hold the center in place. Then the piece with the large holes. Into the holes go the plastic spacers. Next is the piece that holds the ring to the steering wheel. Three screws and finally the spring. Finished.

Just so you know....that rubber thing in the middle which has been incinerated by years of hot summers can be replaced with a new insulator available at some of the premier repro parts suppliers. It is possible that an old spark plug cable boot would be a good alternative too if you can't find the sponge-rubber cylinder.
Ahem, did you replace the '54 dash knobs with ones that came off a '55 T-Bird and use a '55 t-bird radio in your dash?

That rubber thing in the middle is actually a glob of butyl rubber I believe. Doesn't matter, it isn't the one I installed in the car, the pictures are of spare pieces from my parts car. The knobs and radio are stock '54 Ford. I have another one from the parts car ('54 Victoria) that looks just like it. The knobs match all my other knobs.

A little off topic, but those dash knobs with the chrome dome are the same ones used in '55 T-birds. The '55 passenger cars had the same knob, except without the chrome domes.
I have a knob from a '53 Ford that is similar, except they don't have the satellite ring around the knob.
