Horn problem

Hello , I feel bad about asking this question after restoring the 1930 cabriolet to the point ready to drive down the road. I rebuilt the sparton horn and mounted it to the light bar under the head light. When I tested it off the car it worked great ! When I put the yellow wire from the cut out on the generator and the horn button wire on It starts to smoke and not work. It sparks when you touch the horn to the horn mounting bar when wires are connected to the horn.:confused:
Do I need to clean some paint of the horn mtg bracket?

thank you for the reply I will take a look there and see . I only saw insulated washers where the contacts mounted .

thanks again will check it out ! any help is always good to hear. this is the first model a I have worked on. I had a 36 Plymouth 5 window pro street car big difference.

Hello 1930 ford I checked my horn and the brushes are mounted to a fiber board no screws.

I do think there is a short somewhere .

How did you test it?

will try to load a picture. the horn bell assy shows Sparton stamped on it! Could have been changed over the years b-4 I bought the car a couple of years ago.

THE HORN HAS A FIBER PC OF MATERIAL MOUNTED UNDER THE PLACE THE BRASS SCREWS WITH THE TERMINALS MOUNT TO HORN AND UNDER SIDE WHERE SCREWS MTG ARE FIBER WASHERS AND THE NUTS.

I tested the horn and it sounds great not mounted to the car and laying on the fender on a cloth hooked up to the horn wiring.

Sounds like you have a problem outside the horn. How did you check the horn off of the car? Call me or provide me with your phone number, maybe I can help solve your problem over the phone. Neil. THE HORN MAN
