Horn / light rod repair thoughts

I have a bunch of "dead" rods no continuity end to end . I thought to see if I could easily make a repair .This is how I did it . This was on 30/31 unit . I lifted the tabs and tapped out hthe horn button keep ring . I unsoldered the bottom end and pulled the top contact and pulled the wire clear ,it was in good condition . I used a Dremel to grind the top contact flat and with a small punch tapped it out of the black phenolic housing . I clipped the brass contact off and pared the wire back so I had a 1/8" wire end bare . I tinned the wire end and neatly soldered a short wire to it which I also tinned . I tinned a small brass washer and pushed the wire end through the housing and soldered the union . The housing is fairly heat resistant so minimal deformation . Pushed the wire down the tube and resoldered the washer on the end . Put back in my 28 phaeton and my AE horn blows mighty fine !!!

Repair kits are available but being in the UK would add long distance shipping. Your likely better off just using your local repair scheme since you know how they are made.
