Hi guys, purchased this horn from an older gentleman some time ago. it doesn't work properly. so as a winter project i thought i might rebuild it. I need help in identifying it. doesn't look like the ones in the parts catalog i have. ?? thanks for looking THE HOOCH
That riveted spring holder on top is interesting, I haven't seen that before. The rest of it looks pretty standard. Most (all?) original horns had the manufacturer's logo stamped on the flange where the bell and the motor mount connect. It's often extremely faint. Could be on either side.
Definitely EA Labs out of the five different manufacturers. It looks to have been restored before. If not, then it may have been cleaned up in some respect but the field and armature windings don't quite appear like they would have originally. I could be wrong about that so don't give it much worry. A person can try to use a small compass to see how the poles are set up. If not wound correctly it wont turn. It may require removal of the armature to do that. Some growlers will test small armatures to be sure they still have continuity with no shorts to ground. There are instructions for rewinding in certain club publications. Some folks rewind them for 12-volt use. It's all in the gauge of magnet wire and number of turns. The terminal clips were bent up quite a bit. They usually lay down a lot more than that so that the wire terminal ends will clip in.
