Hood Latches

If I read the judging guide correctly (pp. 13-6, hood latches for the 30-31 Ford are installed so the stop keeps them from falling inward. I saw a car the other day with the latches theother way. This keeps them from hitting the inner fender. I like this better but apparently it is not correct?

That is correct, when they are installed correctly they actually lay on the fender.

I know the 28s are different but I don't see anything in the standards to help ID the later originals from good repos. In an earlier post someone said they could tell the difference. How?

The early latch hook was solid metal. The later ones are stamped steel. Clem

My 28 has forged hooks/handles and 3 mounting holes. Without looking it up in the J/S I'm not sure when they went to stamped hooks/handles, or when they went to 2 mounting holes.
